Boxing Day commemorates a day of goodwill when wealthy land owners rewarded their servants or people living on their land with gifts for their service on Christmas day. Though it is a national holiday in Britain and Canada, it is not especially celebrated in the USA. It is supposed to have originated in the middle Ages in Britain. The rich enjoyed Christmas with their families and friends, whereas the laborers worked hard. To appreciate them, they were given a holiday on the day after Christmas, which is December 26, along with gift boxes.
